目前湖北移动的用户已达400万,原有的系统无论在其容量、扩容能力,还是在数据保护、性能上都已很难支持急速增长的用规模,难以满足飞速发展移动用户的服务需求。因此,湖北移动对移动电话计费结算中心进行了扩容,在该扩容项目中采用了EMC公司的存储系统,扩容后不仅保证湖北省400万移动用户的实时计费结算和查询服务,同时为以后的系统扩容预留了足够的空间,满足了未来3～5年内满足业务扩展的需求。
