吸血鬼文学正如吸血鬼本身的特性一样,似乎从诞生以来,一直是作家笔下永生的体裁。在圣经中最早追溯到Judas,据说他为了30枚银币出卖耶稣,后悔并上吊自杀,但是耶稣不愿原谅他,让他死后在黑暗处以吸血永生,永远孤独,不得见光,因此他惧怕一切与耶稣有关的圣物。2008年,耶鲁大学Shelly Kagan教授做的名为《死亡》的网上公开课中,他提到大多数美国人都相信非物质的灵魂存在,拥有灵魂就有了永生的可能性,
