近来,五四运动倡导者们关于国民性的讨论颇为中西学者所瞩目并引起了不少讨论。本文试图考察五四研究中这一重要的问题,考察其发展,意义及部分学者的基本设想、研究方法、成果和随之而来的问题。这些都需要加以探讨,以期使五四时期的国民性改造潮流在历史的视野中得到恰如其份的一席之地。
Recently, the discussions held by the May Fourth Movement advocators on the national character have attracted much attention from Chinese and Western scholars and caused much discussion. This article attempts to examine the important issue of the May 4th Movement and examine its development, significance and the basic assumptions, research methods, achievements and the consequent problems of some scholars. These all need to be explored in order to make the trend of national reformation in the May 4th period get a proper place in the historical perspective.
