According to Am J Crit Care, critically ill patients tend to weaken their muscles and cause long-term effects. To assess the physiological changes that patients receive with early standard passive training, researchers at the University of Chicago have designed a type of experiment. The subjects were 30 ICU patients with intubation time within 72h. Passive trainers were used to give them 20min continuous passive leg training. The training rate and the degree of flexion and extension were both standardized.
