机顶盒一词起源于1977年,当时美国华纳电缆通讯公司开发出了最早期的QUBE(库贝)交互电视系统,它是在有线电视基础上,提供按次收费的家庭购物和MTV等节目,每个库贝用户的电视机上都有一个机顶盒STB,供用户输入选择、接收、拒绝等控制信息。历经三十多年的技术发展,人们通常所说的机顶盒尽管采用了许多新技术新功能,如接收数字电视和Internet浏览等,但仍然不能从根本上满足目前迅速发展的数字化信息家电控制及网络化的需求。本文提出的“信息家电网络控制平台”有别于传统的机顶盒,在具备一般机顶盒功能的基础上,该平台较全面地支持数字化信息家电网络控制功能,为该技术领域的发展提出了新的架构。
