Formative assessment focuses on monitoring and evaluating student progress in learning. Applying it to the teaching of American and British newspapers and periodicals is conducive to arousing students’ enthusiasm for learning, giving full play to students’ initiative and cultivating students’ autonomous learning ability and speculative ability.
