茎突舌骨综合征是一种发育异常疾患。早在1652年De Marschettis即有类似本症的报道。国内1955年萧轼之亦有所描述。本症名称较多,如茎突舌骨综合征、茎突痛、茎突过长症、茎突过长所致舌咽神经痛或耳痛症、症状性茎突过长,茎突-茎突舌骨综合征、舌骨综合症、巨大茎突、异常茎突Eagle综合征等。本文采用茎突舌骨综合征名称。本综合征是由茎突过长、茎突舌骨韧带骨化而引起。头颈部疼痛有许多与其相似的综合征,一般头颈外科、神经科和口腔科的教科书缺乏本症的描述
