重庆的黄桷坪,是一个被大都市的繁华、匆忙和喧嚣所弃置的角落。它位于城市与乡村的结合部,处于疯长中的现代化城市的边缘。相对于周边那一片片拔地而起的高楼大厦,它如同隐藏在大都市皱折里的影子。黄桷坪周围的房屋比较陈旧、简陋。从材质、结构和样式看,多数为上世纪六七十年代的建筑,少数属于九十年代以来专为出租而搭建的简易房,其中还夹杂着个别解放前的建筑。这些房屋,大都租给了从四面八方到四川美术学院来求学的学生和民工。简陋而宁静之中的艺术学习氖围,掩饰不住房屋外面五花八门的商业符号。重庆天气潮湿、雾大,随处可见绿色的青苔、植物附着在建筑物上。这些建筑有些十分破旧,看得出翻修、改建、加补的痕迹,不难想象这些房屋主人的生活状态。
