Hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) is a global infectious disease that is caused by many enteroviruses and threatens the health of children. It was first reported in New Zealand in 1957. Under normal circumstances, enterovirus EV71 and Coxsackie virus A16 are the major pathogens causing hand-foot-mouth disease. HFMD caused by EV71 infection is indistinguishable from Coxsackievirus A16-induced HFMD in terms of clinical symptoms and the like. However, due to the high degree of neuroticism of EV71, the nervous system is more likely to be involved and critically ill. We collected 103 cases of HFMD in Heilongjiang Province and retrospectively analyzed their clinical data so as to enhance their understanding of the disease.
