Hepatitis A is mainly transmitted by the fecal-oral route. Asymptomatic or symptomatic infections caused by an average of about 28 days after Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection are closely related to age. Most children over 6 years of age (70%) show asymptomatic or nonspecific symptoms. Slightly larger children or adults, the infection is usually symptomatic, jaundice in 70% of adult patients. Nearly 30% of patients with hepatitis A in the United States are children under 15 years of age. The most common mode of transmission is cohabitation or sexual contact with hepatitis A patients. However, 40% to 50% of the reported cases did not have a clear source of infection.
