在测试试样前,可以根据送来的试样的剪切口,来预测试样的某些力学性能。以圆试样为例,切口形状有O字形和D字形。D字形试样的塑性好,O字形试样塑性较差。切口D字形的明显程度与试样的塑性程度相对应。在测试过程中根据切口的形状,相应地采取不同的测试手段。例如切口形状是O字形,有可能是屈服不明,因此在测其屈服强度时,要特别注意,应用其它专用仪器测出其屈服强度,用一般指针法有可能测不出其屈服点。观察剪切口,可以看到切口面由两部分组成,上部分表面较光滑,下部分表面较粗
