Since 2002, the Labor Party of Lianyungang Municipal Party Committee focused its investigation and research on the health care of peasants and the construction of township hospitals. Each year, the CPPCC National Committee members and medical experts from the Peasants and Workers’ Party of China are organized to conduct rural research. After Ganyu County became the first pilot county of the new rural cooperative medical system established by the provincial government in 2003, the Municipal Party Committee of Labor Party Lianyungang pays close attention to the operation of this system. In their research, they found that the new cooperative medical system in rural areas was welcomed by peasants but still existed
