冬珊瑚又叫玉珊瑚、珊瑚珠,龙珠等等。学名是: Solanum pseudocapsicum L。属茄科植物,原产南美洲巴西。为常绿灌木,高约一米左右。枝叶茂磷,树姿优美,小枝嫩绿,颇似辣椒。叶互生,有短柄,披针形,边缘为波状。夏秋间,茎上抽生短总状花序,与叶对生,花冠五裂白色,似辣椒花。花初开下垂。传粉受精结果后,逐渐垂直向上。果实为球形,初为绿色,后渐转红,有甜味,如珊瑚珠,因而得名。果实内含种子100—150粒左右,形如辣椒种子。每当秋冬季节,红果绿叶,极为美观。
