On October 6, Texas Instruments’ annual Asia DSP Solutions Symposium was held in Beijing. At the conference, two new DSP processors TMS320C6202 and C6211 were announced with their processing capabilities of 2000MIPS and 1200OMIPS, respectively, at MIPS The price is only about 2 cents. Terry Riley, Ph.D., director of semiconductor and broadband access business development at TI, said: "TI is going to completely abandon its analog modems in the next five to 10 years to fully implement its digital solutions. TI currently has DSP research centers in addition to 100 universities in China and has cooperated with Lenovo, Great Wall and Founder in V.90 modems and cooperated with Huawei in the design and development of semiconductor chips. In the DSP market, TI has occupied 45% of the share. According to Forward Concepts’s forecast, in 2000 the global programmable DSP market sales will reach 13 billion US dollars.
