日前偶阅《杂家》创刊号,内载上海图书馆最近评出最受欢迎的十本工具书和十本一般图书,其中名列工具书之首的是《世界知识年鉴》。看后很受鼓舞。我作为编篡该书的负责人之一,愿意向读者谈谈这本年鉴的情况。解放前,世界知识出版社作为一个进步的出版社,曾经出版过一本类似国际知识年鉴的手册。解放后,1952年在当时任副总编辑的陈原同志的倡导、设计和主持下,寥寥几个人,挤在两间编辑室内,日夜操劳,终于出版了《1953年世界知识手册》。当然,现在回头看,那是不够成熟的东西。
