US Internal Medicine News Volume 12 No. 20 (1979) LONDON (Reuters) - At the Seventh International Thrombosis and Hemostasis Conference, Dr Raymond V. Johnston, of the Royal Glasgow Hospital in Scotland, said that saturated fat can activate Circulating platelets, platelets are activated after agglutination, and cleared from the cycle, resulting in a temporary decline in platelet count. These changes can be stopped by the intake of aspirin. Eight healthy subjects (7 males and 1 female) received 150 ml of cream and then blood was collected for chemical analysis. Serum triglycerides increased 42% after 90 minutes of ingestion and increased 95% after 180 minutes. Average platelet aggregation rate dropped significantly within 3 hours and returned to normal after 6 hours. No significant serum cholesterol levels
