外婆和母亲她们用对故乡的眷恋、对工作的热情,鼓励、支持着我我的外婆吴淑端,原名翁玉串,台湾原台北县人。年轻时随父亲来闽,在厦门同安结识了一表人才的外公。外公师从爱国华侨陈嘉庚先生,曾任职同安县政府,外婆则在同安县小学教书。在战火纷飞的年代,俩人相依为命。此后,由于众所周知的原因,外婆没能再回到故乡台湾。她随外公辗转厦门定居,过着清贫而简朴的生活。听母亲说,外婆因日夜思念家乡的父母和其他亲人,常常一人独自在厦门海边,遥望故乡默默流泪。久而久之,外婆不幸患上了白内障和青光眼,最终失去光明。
