The third volume of Deng Xiaoping’s Literary Selections and the second volume previously published are the foundations for the construction of contemporary Chinese Marxism with the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Grasp the Essence of Building Socialist Theory with Chinese Characteristics Comrade Deng Xiaoping pointed out many times that seeking truth from facts is “the essence of Marxism” and “the quintessence of Mao Zedong Thought.” Comrade Jiang Zemin said: “Emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts repeatedly emphasized by Comrade Deng Xiaoping is the essence that runs through all the ideas of building a theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics.”
