Prodecyptide P (Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gin-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH_2) (SP) is a tachykinin. These peptides have two receptors: SP-P is present in the guinea pig ileum wall (GPI) and SP-E is present in the rat vas deferens (RVD). In this paper, Glu was used instead of Gln ~ 6 to enhance the N-terminal hydrophilicity, and then some functional groups were introduced to increase the affinity to the SP receptor subclass. Then, Gly ~ 9 was substituted with Pro. The purpose of this modification is to determine whether this theoretically favored change in the folded conformation affects the biological activity of the SP receptor
