According to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs of the Russian Federation, Russia achieved 439.5 billion U.S. dollars of foreign trade in 2006, up 29.2% from the previous year, of which 302 billion U.S. dollars was worth exports, an increase of 25.1% over the same period of last year; the import was 137.5 billion U.S. dollars, up 39.3% over the same period. The annual trade surplus was 164.4 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 21.6 billion U.S. dollars over 2005, with a surplus of 144.5 billion U.S. dollars against non-CIS countries and a surplus of 19.9 billion U.S. dollars against the Commonwealth of Independent States. In 2006, Russia exported 254.7 billion U.S. dollars to the non-CIS countries, an increase of 24.3%; and exported 42.3 billion U.S. dollars to the CIS countries, an increase of 29.6%. Imports from the non-CIS countries in 2006 were 115.2 billion U.S. dollars, up 44.5% over the same period of previous year, accounting for 83.8% of the total Russian imports, an increase of 3.1 percentage points over the previous year.
