经济史学科是融合经济学和历史学的边缘学科，因而在经济史研究中，就研究对象、方法和成果而言，显现出偏重于历史学或偏重于经济学的特点来，形成了历史学家的经济史或经济学家的经济史。目前，运用经济学方法，并对经济学科产生较重要推动作用的研究成果略显不足。经济学理论离不开经济史，理由在于：经济史是经济学理论创新的基础；经济理论必须结合经济史揭示的经验性材料，才能启发人们更好地从实际出发加以应用。经济史研究方法的创新应加强运用理论与历史相结合的方法；应注重根据研究目的和可能得到的史料更多地运用经济理论为工具来解释和分析经济事实，如运用产业结构演变理论、区域经济理论、边际分析理论、交易费用理论、公共选择理论、产权和制度经济学、宏观经济理论、收入分配理论、对外贸易理论、城市经济学理论等等。应注重从经济史中总结出特定规律，以对现有经济理论进行补充和创新。 在南开大学近期召开的新世纪中国经济史研究展望国际学术研讨会上，本刊记者就经济史研究方面的有关问题采访了南开大学经济史学教授了长清先生。
Economic history is the fusion of economics and history of the marginal subjects, and therefore in the study of economic history, research objects, methods and results, the emphasis on history or emphasis on economics characteristics, formed the history The economic history of a house or economist’s economic history. Currently, the use of economic methods, and economics have a more important role in promoting the research results slightly less. Economic theory is inseparable from the economic history, the reason is that: economic history is the basis of economic theory innovation; economic theory must be combined with the experience of economic history revealed material, can inspire people to better apply from the reality. The innovation of economic history research methods should strengthen the application of the combination of theory and history. Emphasis should be placed on using economic theory as a tool to explain and analyze economic facts based on research purposes and possible historical materials. For example, using the theory of industrial structure evolution, Economic theory, marginal analysis theory, transaction cost theory, public choice theory, property rights and institutional economics, macroeconomic theory, income distribution theory, foreign trade theory, urban economics theory and so on. We should pay attention to summing up certain laws from the economic history so as to supplement and innovate the existing economic theories. At the recent international symposium held by Nankai University on the Prospect of China’s Economic History, our reporter interviewed Mr. Chang Qing, professor of economic history at Nankai University, on relevant issues in the study of economic history.
