A randomized study in the UK reported that labor-time epidural anesthesia does not cause postpartum back pain. According to this randomized controlled study lasting 26 months, no relationship was found between epidural anesthesia and long-term back pain, limited mobility and disability. The study randomized 269 women to epidural anesthesia and other forms of narcotic pain relief and followed up for 26 months. 151 were epidural anesthesia and 155 were other forms of analgesic treatment. At follow-up, the physiotherapist conducted a questionnaire and examination of the patient. The results showed no difference between the two groups in terms of back pain, limited mobility, and spine deformity. Physiotherapists believe that the factors associated with persistent maternal prenatal and post-natal persistent lumbago mainly include heavy physical labor and multiple pregnancies.
