On the basis of introduction of electromagnetic wave theory of modes into channel waveguides of anisotropic crystals and analysis of effective index analytical method, the mode eigenvalue of channel waveguides with graded refractive index distributions has been obtained by combining the potential well model with WKB method. The mode cutoff character and single mode condition were deduced for the waveguides with either step-like or graded refractive index distributions.
