中国古典绘画是以赋彩为主的“丹青”绘画,它在唐宋时期走向高峰的同时,又因“水墨”画的不断“兴盛”而逐步“丧失”其在中国绘画中的主流地位。从而使得以“笔墨”为宗的“水墨画”、“写意画”代替以“赋彩”为主的“丹青画”、“工笔画”成为中国绘画的精髓。其过程是“丹青”衍变(渐衰)与“水墨”滋长(渐兴)互为表里的过程。
