MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding single-stranded RNA molecules of about 22 nucleotides in length encoded by endogenous genes and are involved in the regulation of gene expression after transcription. Numerous evidences indicate that some miRNAs are dysregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and miRNAs are found to regulate cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis, invasion, and cell cycle through a number of pathways or genes. In addition, there are some studies that miRNAs are oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. Therefore, in-depth understanding of the specific role and function of miRNA in HCC may provide a new way for the treatment of HCC.
