MPEG-1, Layer3 (MP3), the most popular file format for compressing and playing CD-quality music, currently leads to a war on copyright that determines how music is distributed over the Internet. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Diamond Multimedia both agree that MP3 is a far-reaching technology for the music industry, but both claim to be hurting the fledgling MP3 market. RIAA believes that the illegal spread of MP3 music over the Internet will destroy the online digital music market and recently asked the court to block Diamond Multimedia from distributing the Rio PMP300, a $ 199 portable MP3 player. The RIAA’s application was rejected, but it has filed an appeal. Appeal process
