历史上往往有很多意味深长的巧合。1842年8月29日,停泊在南京下关江面的英国“臬华丽”号旗舰上,清廷全权代表耆英按照英方旨意,在割让香港的可耻城下之盟——中英《南京条约》上正式画押签字。令人不堪伤心回味的是:誓与英国人决一死战的民族英雄林则徐,当时正充军伊犁途中,吟哦着“关山万里残春梦,犹听江东战鼓声”的悲凉诗句。恰恰是林则徐自西安踏上充军伊犁苦难历程的那一天,在南京兴中门外的下关静海寺内,耆英与英方全权代表伊里布言和。
