The tensile strength of the cured radial tire steel cord is steadily increasing to meet the needs of light-duty vehicles. 4000M Pa grade steel cords are commercialized by improving ductility during drawing of a 0.9% C hypereutectoid steel wire rod. The concept of reinforcement, strengthening methods and microstructural features are introduced. The ductility and maximum strength levels during wire drawing and the future technical issues are discussed.
