The object vibrates and emits sound. It propagates through the medium. The distant bell vibrates and sounds. It uses air as the medium to propagate in all directions. The generated acoustic wave vibrates in the same direction as the wave, and it is a longitudinal wave. The air can only transmit the longitudinal wave. This is determined by the nature of the material. Therefore, the bells in the distance are very easy to hear. In the city, there are lots of cars during the day. The machines, vehicles, and people in the factory all generate vibrations of different sizes, forming a series of sound waves. These sound waves rely on the air as the medium, and like the sound waves generated by the clock vibration, they spread in all directions.
