在中国,红色一直是中国人所膜拜的颜色,代表喜庆和吉祥之意。人们不仅将红色用于自我保护,驱鬼辟邪,更将自己喜爱的颜色用在了瓷器的烧制上。祭红瓷作为陶瓷的一个种类,它是陶瓷发展到一定阶段的产物。祭红瓷的釉色是以铜作为着色剂,祭红釉之红色是我国传统文化的一个标志,一种希望,一种喜庆之色,更是一种祭祖之情。它所具有从物质到精神的文化功能。故其经久不衰,并且深受的古董商的青睐。祭红是中国传统陶瓷产品的佼佼者。清项元汴《历代名瓷图谱》记道:“……祭红,其色艳若朱霞,真万代名瓷之首冠也!”
