To explore the role of ionizing radiation on the destruction of nucleic acids, for clarifying the mechanism of radiation damage is of great significance. We reported that DNA in E. coli cells is the most sensitive to x-rays. The decrease of DNA content in cells caused by radiation may mainly result in the activation of DNase.
