Japanese academic circles examine Japan’s relations with the East Asian Community through different historical perspectives and set Japan’s role in East Asian regional cooperation. Japanese scholars who take a positive look at the history of ancient East Asia advocate drawing lessons from modern Japanese colonialism and imperialism and Japan should actively participate in the construction of East Asian community. Japanese scholars who emphasize the diversity and diversity of East Asian history advocate that Japan should borrow the Western values and the political forces outside East Asia for regional cooperation in East Asia. However, Japanese scholars who persist in the historical perspective of modern Japan “taking Asia as an example” have firmly opposed Japan’s engagement in the construction of an East Asian community.
