Objective To investigate the relationship between zinc (Zn) infection and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and cellular immune function. Methods Sixty-six children with CMV infection (CMV group) and 60 healthy children (control group) were enrolled in this study. The peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets and serum zinc levels were compared between the two groups. According to the test results of blood zinc level, CMV group was further divided into normal blood zinc CMV group 36 cases and low blood zinc CMV group 20 cases, comparing their cellular immune function. Results Compared with the control group, the levels of CD3 +, CD4 +, CD4 + / CD8 + and zinc in CMV group were significantly decreased (P <0.01). The levels of CD4 + and CD4 + / CD8 + of low blood zinc CMV group were lower than that of normal blood zinc CMV group (P <0.05). Conclusion There is a certain correlation between zinc deficiency and deficiency and the decline of CMV infection and cellular immunity. In children with CMV infection, zinc deficiency may be more significantly inhibited the normal function of CD4 + T lymphocytes.
