大量的构造地质和岩石学研究揭示,大别山存在超高压变质岩石单元,主要由长英质片麻岩以及少量榴辉岩和大理岩透镜体或条带组成,伴生有极少量的超镁铁岩和石英片岩。大别山变质杂岩已经成为扬子板块与中朝板块之间陆-陆碰撞缝合带的标志。榴辉岩中柯石英和金刚石的发现大大促进了对超高压变质作用及板块俯冲至地幔深度的地球动力学意义的研究。
A large number of tectonic and petrological studies have revealed that there are ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rock units in the Dabie Mountains, consisting mainly of feldspathic gneiss and a few eclogite and marble lens bodies or bands with very few ultramafic rocks And quartz schist. The Dabie Mountain metamorphic complex has become the symbol of the continental-continental collision suture zone between the Yangtze Plate and Sino-Korea Plate. The discovery of coesite and diamond in eclogites has greatly contributed to the study of the geodynamic significance of UHP metamorphism and plate subduction to mantle depth.
