19世纪中、末期,在列强侵略中国、瓜分中国的大背景下,英国发动两次鸦片战争,强迫清政府签定三个不平等条约,从而强占了香港地区。英国作为一个老牌殖民主义国家,很早就有占据中国沿海岛屿的图谋。1840年2月。英国以反对清政府的禁烟行动为借口,向中国派出“东方远征军”,悍然发动鸦片战争,进攻广东、福建、浙江、江苏等省的沿海地区。1842年8月29日,清政府代表被迫与英方签订中国近代史上第一个不平等条约——中英《南京,条约》。该条约规定将香港岛割让给英国。
In the mid to late 19th century, under the general backdrop of the powers’ invasion of China and the partition of China, the United Kingdom launched two opium wars and forced the Qing government to sign three unequal treaties, thus occupying Hong Kong. As an old colonial nation, Britain has long had the intention of occupying China’s coastal islands. February 1840. Under the pretext of opposing the Qing government’s no-smoking operation, Britain sent the “Oriental Expeditionary Army” to China and flagrantly launched the Opium War to attack the coastal areas of Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangsu. On August 29, 1842, the Qing government representatives were forced to sign the first unequal treatise in modern history of China - the Sino-British “Nanjing Treaty.” The treaty provides for the cession of Hong Kong Island to Britain.
