中华人民共和国成立已经一年了。一年来,我们在中南区究竟做了些什么工作呢?这些工作究竟做得好还是不好呢?这些工作究竟对祖国的建设有多少贡献呢?回顾已往,展望将来,无疑的将使我们获得有益的教训,而向着新民主主义建设的伟大目标稳步前进。(一)中南区包括豫、鄂、湘、赣、粤、桂六省及穗、汉两市。全区共有人口一四二,九六六,八八四人,土地面积一,一四五,九四○方公里。除河南及湖北一部解放较早外,最大部分地区是在去年下半年解放的。在短短半年内,历经湘赣、赣南、广州、衡宝、桂粤诸战役,我们就全部歼灭了近六十万人的蒋白匪军,解放了全部中南大陆。今年四月,我们又发起渡海作战,解放了海南岛。其后,又陆续解放了沿海岛屿,控制了长达二千余里的全部海岸线。d 桂粤战役,是中南区域内最大也最艰苦的一次战斗行动。从去年十一月七日开始至十二月十二日占领镇南关,为时仅一个月,歼灭了白匪崇禧所部五个兵团和余匪汉谋的残部。只有极小一部匪军逃出大陆国土。我军指战员在追击中,不怕疲劳,穷追猛打,欢乐而诙谐地唱关「赤脚进广西,活捉白崇禧」,表现了高度的艰苦卓绝的英勇精神。有的部队连续行军二十五日,行程二千余里。活捉张淦的部队四十小时内跑步行军三百里。我们就这样追上了慌忙逃窜的蒋白匪军,达到合围歼灭的目的。
It’s been one year since the People’s Republic of China was founded. What exactly did we do in Central and South China over the past year? Whether these work has been done well or not? How much of these contributions have contributed to the construction of the motherland? Recalling the past and looking forward to the future will undoubtedly make us Useful lessons, and move steadily toward the great goal of new-democratic construction. (I) Central and Southern China includes Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Guangxi provinces as well as Guangzhou and Guangzhou. The total population of the region is 142, 966 and 884, with land area of 1,145,940 square kilometers. In addition to the earlier liberation of Henan and Hubei, most of the region was liberated in the second half of last year. In a short period of six months, after all the campaigns of Hunan, Jiangxi, Gannan, Guangzhou, Hengbao and Guiyue, we completely annihilated Chiang Kai-shek’s army of nearly 600,000 people and liberated all Central South China. In April this year, we launched a cross-sea operation and liberated Hainan Island. Since then, the coastal islands have been liberated one after another, controlling the entire coastline of more than 2,000 kilometers. d Guangxi-Guangdong Campaign is the largest and the most difficult battle in South Africa. From the beginning of November 7 last year to December 12, the occupation of Zhennan Pass took only one month and annihilated the remnants of the five corps and the bandits of the remaining bandits who were worshiped by the White Bandits Chongxi. Only a very small bandit army escaped from mainland China. Our military officers and soldiers engaged in chase without fear of fatigue, pursuing fierce battles and singing “barefoot into Guangxi and capturing Pak Chongxi” joyously and wittyly, displaying a highly arduous and brave spirit. Some troops marched on a continuous twenty-five days for more than 2,000 trips. Captured Zhang Gan’s troops ran three hundred miles in 40 hours. We thus catch up with the Chiang Kai-shek army hurriedly fleeing to achieve the purpose of annihilation.
