Given the mode of transmission of Zika virus, the widespread distribution of mosquito vectors, the lack of vaccines and rapid and reliable virus detection methods and the immunity of the population in newly-emerged countries to the virus, the public health emergency deserves further attention. Concerted international action should be taken to reduce the threat to countries affected by microcephaly and other neurological disorders and to reduce the risk of further transmission of the Zika virus. - WHO Director-General Margaret Chan does not currently have a vaccine against Zika. Research institutions such as the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and the Butanta Institute are actively working with the international community to develop Zika vaccine. It is estimated that the Zika vaccine will take about 3 years. - Brazilian Minister of Health Marcelo Castro
