作为今年规模最大的全球性活动,日本世博会引起了世界各国人民的广泛关注.围绕着“自然智慧”的主题,各展区采用多种多样令人耳目一新的高科技手法,向观众展现了人与自然和谐共生的理想景象.“,”The 2005 World Exposition kicked off its six-month run on Friday in central Japan's Aichi Prefecture, with humanoid robots, futuristic transport systems and a frozen mammoth from Siberia + the star attractions - awaiting more than 100,000 visitors expected on the opening day. Shoichiro Toyoda, Chairman of the Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition, announced the expo opening at around 9:15 a.m. and the gates opened to about 8,850 people who had waited in line for hours, some through the night, braving light snow and chilly winds. The world fair will run through Sept. 25 under the theme of “Nature's Wisdom”, which the organizers say, is aimed at raising awareness of global environmental issues. The organizers hope to attract 15 million visitors, including 1.5 million from overseas, over the 185-day period. The pavilions of 121 countries and four international organizations, as well as local governments and companies such as Toyota Motor Corp. and Hitachi Ltd., are scattered at the two expo sites - Nagakute and Seto - in the suburbs of Nagoya. At the exposition, whose construction cost an estimated 340 billion yen (3.2 billion US dollars), visitors can experience not only visual and audio exhibitions, but also get a taste of a wide array of foods from around the world.
