制度研究在20世纪中叶日渐式微,但80年代以来社会科学研究者愈发重视由内而外的制度思考方式。制度性思维内嵌于制度语境之中,把握它的核心特质需要对比其与批判性思维的差异来避免现代主义思潮的若干成见,忠实接纳前人的传承之物来认知权威的制度价值,追溯价值注入与扩散的发源路径来明确更负责任的道德标准,延展过去、现在与未来的时间界限来探究制度性思维的持续性特征。制度性思维是思考社会维系问题的有益方式,可以为政治机构研究增添现实制约,并为揭示政治与社会的整体发展以及追问人类的确切本性提供思考契机。当然,虽然制度性思维
