虽然杜威被誉为20世纪最伟大的西方美学家之一,但他的美学思想却迟迟不受重视。究其根源,杜威在美学方法论和理论构成上的缺陷是其美学遭受冷落的主要原因。首先,杜威拘泥于传统美学的写作风格,其语言使用和概念缺乏清晰性。其次,杜威美学缺乏对文学理论的关注,因而先天不足,缺乏影响力。只有到了20世纪后期,随着分析美学的衰落,杜威的美学价值才得以显现,并成为日常生活审美化的主要理论渊源。然而,随着审美泛化的加剧,杜威美学也可能导致某种审美困境。因此,在当代新美学的氛围下,我们既要看到杜威美学思想的进步性,又当注意其不足。
Although Dewey was hailed as one of the greatest Western aesthetics in the 20th century, his aesthetics was lamely ignored. Defects its root causes, Dewey’s defects in aesthetics methodology and theoretical structure are the main reasons for its estrangement. First of all, Dewey sticks to the traditional aesthetics style of writing, its language use and lack of clarity of the concept. Second, Dewey’s aesthetics lacks attention to literary theory, so it is inherently deficient and has no influence. Only in the late 20th century, with the decline of analytical aesthetics, Dewey’s aesthetic value has emerged, and has become the main theoretical origin of the aesthetic of daily life. However, with the aggravation of aesthetic generalization, Dewey’s aesthetics may also lead to some aesthetic predicament. Therefore, under the atmosphere of contemporary new aesthetics, we should not only see the progressiveness of Dewey’s aesthetic thoughts, but also pay attention to its deficiencies.
