中国北方史前新石器时代的红山文化是现代考古史上的重大发现。此时期有大量的精美玉器发现,说明红山文化时期是一个唯玉唯尚的时代。造型古朴,加工原始,制作精细,内涵神秘,材质优良的红山玉器充分显示红山先民的聪明才智。此时的原始宗教信仰和各种祭祀崇拜活动纷纷兴起,其中生殖崇拜是最广泛、最重要的原始宗教活动之一。马蹄筒形器就是生殖崇拜通神玉器中的重要器物。
The prehistoric Neolithic Hongshan culture in northern China is a major discovery in the history of modern archeology. During this period there are a large number of exquisite jade found, indicating that the Hongshan culture is a unique jade period. Simple shape, the original processing, production of sophisticated, content connotation, the quality of the Hongshan jade fully shows the intelligence of Hongshan ancestors. At this time, the primitive religious beliefs and all kinds of sacrificial worship activities have emerged. Among them, reproductive worship is one of the most extensive and important primitive religious activities. The horseshoe cylinder is an important artifact in the jade god of reproductive worship.
