1909年上田敏翻译的安德列耶夫短篇小说《心》发表以后,引发了一场激烈的“误译论争”。升曙梦批判他缺乏语言能力和理解能力,称他的译文是“翻译界的耻辱”。尽管如此,一年以后陈景韩却把上田敏的译本翻译成了中文。为何上田敏从法文转译的《心》在日本遭受批判却在中国找到了它的价值?首先,当时中国的欧美文学翻译主要依靠转译;其次,《心》的主题符合译者陈景韩的偏好;最后,《心》的篇幅和插画等符合刊载杂志《小说时报》的编辑宗旨。
