The more superior activity center produced by the precursor Fe 1- x O is a key factor for high activity of Fe 1- x O based catalyst for ammonia synthesis. The optimum decoration of promoter to the iron active centers is an important way of increasing the activity of Fe 1- x O based catalyst. The weak inhibition role of promoters in Fe 1- x O reduction, the stronger adsorption of hydrogen on the surface of Fe 1- x O and α Fe reduced from Fe 1- x O, the lower content of oxygen and the more ferrous ion defects in the precursor Fe 1- x O are the essential factors for the easier reduction performance of Fe 1- x O based catalyst promoted by multi promoters.
