公司约三年前成立了义工小组,希望同事身体力行为社会作出贡献,我加入义工小组后,成为核心成员之一。当初各成员用了不少时间,讨论应该帮助的对象,最后决定集中帮助一些小型的慈善团体。其中最主要的原因,是大型的慈善团体无论在金钱或其它资源方面都较为充足,相信小型的慈善团体更需要外界的支持。我们平均每年有三、四次较为大型的义工活动,当中包括探访独居老人、与小数族裔的小朋友游玩、与患病的小朋友外出,以及在公司举办慈善义卖等。其它定期的活动亦不少,例如定期参与卖旗工作及举办便服日筹款等。除了同事积极参与,他们的家人亦有出力,甚至同事的小孩亦有一同参与。
The company set up a volunteer team about three years ago, hoping that colleagues will contribute to society through physical exertion. When I joined the volunteer team, I became one of the core members. At the beginning, members spent a great deal of time discussing who should help and finally decided to help some small charities. The main reason for this is that large charities, irrespective of their financial or other resources, are more likely to believe that small charities need the support of the outside world. On average, we have three or four major volunteer activities every year. These include visits to elderly people living alone, children traveling with ethnic minorities, outings with sick children and holding charity bazaars in the company. Other regular activities are also numerous, such as regularly participating in the flag-selling activities and organizing daily fund-raising for casual wear. Apart from the active involvement of colleagues, their families also contribute their efforts. Even children of colleagues have joined together.
