自治区珍贵动物考察工作,根据农林部于一九七三年十月十五日在北京召开的“重点省市自治区珍贵动物资源保护,调查座谈会”要求“调查任务要在一九七六年底以前完成”并向农林部提出报告。在中央农林部的支持关怀下于一九七五年七月二十三日至十一月二日由自治区农林局组织了新疆维吾尔自治区珍贵动物考察队。其中有来自兄弟省、市有关科研、高等院校等单位;他们是西北大学生物系、陕西师大生物系,陕西生物考察队,上海自然博物馆,我区八一农学院,乌鲁木齐市园林处,农林局设计处,汽车队共十三人组成“新疆维吾尔自治区珍贵动物考察队”先后在北疆阿勒泰重点地区的布尔津,福海,阿勒泰,富蕴、哈巴河、青河、东疆的奇台木垒等有关地区进行了历时三个月的考察工作。
