伯夷、叔齐之死太史公写传,向来是开门见山,先说某某人字号如何,家住哪里,而把议论放在后面。这在某种程度上为后来的立传构建了模式。大凡立传,写一个人的行状,对他的褒贬品评大都可以包含在所采用的事件和角度中,后面的议论不过是水到渠成,画龙点睛而已。但唯独在《伯夷列传》中,老先生先是大发了一通议论,感叹伯夷们的高义世间所少,关于他们的文字也不多见。这里面既有今不如昔的感慨,也是对疑古派们的回应。
