In 1964, the Public Health Administration Surgery Headquarters proposed smoking as a serious public health hazard. Since then, a great deal of research has been done on this aspect. Smokers die of lung cancer at 10 times more likely to be non-smokers; men with fatal heart attacks are twice as likely to die; and those who die of COPD at 6 times more likely to die. Each year, 350,000 deaths are attributed to smoking, and smokers up to two or more bags a day are twice as likely to die as non-smokers. In recent decades, life expectancy has been significantly prolonged in the United States and many other countries, with an increasing proportion of the elderly population. Due to human life delay
