Health and Safety has revised two of the engineering safety information sheets to handle degreasing and to produce a new type of metal for cleaning and degreasing with immersion. Provides instructions on general handling, maintenance, solvent degreasing tank cleaning, and cold cleaning of engineering components. Between 1985 and 1996, the HSE investigated a number of accidents that occurred while servicing or cleaning degreasing units, or when people in the process were in trouble trying to take remedial measures. In the investigations, 6 people were killed and 83 were seriously wounded; 48 caused fainting. Of these fatalities, 54 were caused by the lack of proper respirators or proper protection when entering the defatting device.
