上海第五机床厂是一个只有几百名职工的工厂。他们在华中工学院等单位的大力协同下，共同研制成功的连杆称重去重自动线，这是一条具有先进水平的自动线。它不仅为我国汽车工业解决了生产急需，而且给机床工业研制先进水平的自动线闯出了一条路子。厂校挂钩，充分发挥教育与生产相结合的作用，是个方向。这一事实告诉我们，技术要求高并不可怕，物质条件差并不难，只要坚持走“独立自主，自力更生”、“打破洋框框，走自己工业发展的道路”；坚持调查研究；坚持科学试验；实行内外“三结合”，就能多快好省地创制出国民经济所需要的新产品
