随着工业化和现代化的不断推进,世界不同的社会都产生了深刻的结构上和思想上的转型。社会性别与发展问题是转型期出现的重要问题之一。在结构上,由于社会、经济和政治上客观条件和环境的改变,社会中的两性地位和角色也发生了许多变化。在思想观念上,工业化和现代化思潮对解释两性平等关系及其与社会变迁的相互关系有重要影响。社会性别与发展问题已不仅是工业发展历史比较悠久的欧美国家的主要问题,更是社会转型迅速的亚洲国家面临的重要问题。在这样的形势下,亚洲的社会性别与发展问题国际研讨会于1997年11月27～29日在香港中文大学举行,来自亚洲各国和欧美国家的近100名专家学者出席了这次会议。会上所讨论的主要问题包括以下几个方面。
With the continuous advancement of industrialization and modernization, profound structural and ideological transformation has taken place in different societies in the world. Gender and development issues are one of the major issues in transition. Structurally, due to social, economic and political changes in objective conditions and the environment, many changes have taken place in the gender position and role in society. Ideologically, the trend of industrialization and modernization has a significant impact on explaining the relationship between gender equality and its interdependence with social changes. The issue of gender and development is not only a major issue for the European and American countries that have a long history of industrial development, but also an important issue for Asian countries that are experiencing rapid social transformation. Under such circumstances, the Asian Symposium on Gender Issues and Development was held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from November 27 to 29, 1997. Nearly 100 experts and scholars from Asian countries, Europe and the United States attended the conference. The main issues discussed at the meeting include the following aspects.
